Emergency Medical Science (A45340B)

Bridge Program

The Emergency Medical Science bridge program has been established for students that have completed portions of their EMS requirements through a North Carolina community college continuing education program. In order to receive curriculum credit for EMS Continuing Education courses, students must hold a current North Carolina EMT/PARAMEDIC credential. Students with current NC or National Registry Paramedic Certification will receive credit for (EMS 110, EMS 122, EMS 130, EMS 131, EMS 160, EMS 220, EMS 221, EMS 231, EMS 240, EMS 241, EMS 250, EMS 260, EMS 270)

Students may be required to take one or more developmental courses as a result of pre-enrollment placement tests; therefore, the student may need more than the minimum number of semester hours listed for graduation. Developmental courses for this program may include Readiness Level Reading, English, and/or Math and other courses in developmental Reading, English, Math, Biology and Chemistry. For more information on developmental courses, see page 52 or speak to a program advisor.

Upon completion of this program students will:

  • Indicate an entry-level cognitive competency of the material required in national and State paramedic educational standards and guidelines.

  • Demonstrate entry-level proficiency in the application of paramedic assessment and treatment skills in medical and traumatic emergencies.

  • Interact appropriately with emergency personnel, healthcare providers, patients, and bystanders.
