Cosmetology Diploma (D55140)

Diploma

The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to provide competency-based knowledge, scientific/artistic principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated with the cosmetology industry. The curriculum provides a simulated salon environment that enables students to develop manipulative skills. Course work includes instruction in all phases of professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multi-cultural practices, business/computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected topics.

Graduates should qualify to sit for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. Upon successfully passing the State Board exam, graduates will be issued a license. Employment is available in beauty salons and as skin/nail specialists, platform artists, and related businesses.

This curriculum complies with the standard approved by the State Board of Community Colleges.

Students may be required to take developmental courses in Math and/or English as a result of high school GPA or pre-enrollment placement tests.  Therefore, the student may need more than the minimum number of semester hours listed for graduation. Consult a program advisor for more information.

Upon completion of this program, students will:

  • Explain and discuss the foundational knowledge obtained in the theoretical classroom on the subjects within our scope of practice that influence cosmetology and esthetics consultation and execution of services.

  • Develop correct foundational technical skills that are within the designated scope of practice for all Cosmetology services.

  • Execute proper Universal precautions (sanitation, disinfection and Proper Blood exposure) for the safety of each client they serve as well as themselves as the operator.

  • Conduct professional consultations with clients to assess their specific cosmetology needs.

The following course sequences are for day students. Night students should work closely with their advisor for an adjusted sequence.
